The Bangladesh Gastroenterology Society (BGS) is the country’s foremost professional society aimed at the promotion of gastroenterology and hepatology in Bangladesh. Founded in 1988, the Society unites practitioners, scholars, and other health professionals who aim to improve clinical care of digestive diseases and reach the benchmarks of research excellence and education. BGS is concerned with the enhancement of a cohesive, multidisciplinary professional body and networking among gastroenterologists, hepatologists, surgeons, researchers, dieticians, and health educators from different institutions across the globe and within the country. The Society seeks to improve cooperation and engagement to raise the level of patient care and services, as well as the efficiency and competence of professional practice in the country.
BGS aims to assist the advancement of education and training in gastroenterology as one of its core objectives. The Society helps to achieve this goal by organizing workshops, training webinars, symposiums, and clinical skills courses directed towards pre- and post-graduate level students. In this way, BGS enables practitioners and specialists to keep up to date with modern methods of diagnosing, treating, and managing diseases of the gastrointestinal tract and liver.
